A leading European poultry and convenience-food group, LDC has more than 120 production sites. The Société Normande de Volaille (SNV) facility in Laval, Mayenne, is one of the group’s key production sites.

In 2023, nearly 450,000 chickens were processed there every week to supply the retail market. SNV Laval is also one of only two facilities in France producing for KFC France, which has chosen to source exclusively French-origin chicken fillets and wings.

To support the growth of its business and make full use of its potential, the LDC Group launched a major programme to modernise and expand the site. The project included the construction of a new building.

As part of this project, CM2A’s technical sales team reviewed SNV’s specifications for a new unloading machine capable of handling high throughputs while meeting the strictest sanitary requirements and « bien-être animal » standards.

SNV Laval therefore entrusted CM2A with the design and installation of its new live poultry unloading machine. The objective was to implement a high-performance, safe and compliant solution.

This project also had to meet the specific requirements of the halal market. As a result, the installation does not include a controlled-atmosphere stunning tunnel for killing the birds.

A washing and disinfection module

The SNV-Laval team visited the pre-assembled installation at our workshops, accompanied by a safety inspector, to carry out a preliminary compliance audit. This also provided an opportunity to finalise the remaining organisational details relating to the installation work at its site.

We also handled the wiring and installation of the control and power electrical cabinets in a dedicated technical room located away from the production area. This was an ambitious technical choice, but it offers numerous advantages when site conditions allow it (work sequencing):

In spring 2025, the CM2A installation team completed the installation of the new SNV Laval unloading machine. It is now ready to enter service.
